We welcome a new initiative to TalkMatters – Sipur-Hikaya (‘story’ in Hebrew and Arabic). Watch the video clip to discover how Israeli businessman Sefi Donner was inspired by the book ‘Side by Side – Parallel Histories of Israel-Palestine’ and is now bringing Jews and Arabs to meet and talk together.
Established in 2017, the Sipur-Hikaya initiative uses the book ‘Side by Side’ to teach both sides of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This dual narrative approach is studied in pre-military preparatory courses, schools and universities. The learning process begins with the understanding that for any kind of reconciliation it is necessary to recognise “the other”, and a condition for recognising the other is to know the other.
