As rockets continue to fall in Israel, we are doing what we can to protect ourselves and keep each other safe. During this crisis, The Abraham Initiatives is committed to helping Israeli citizens forge real solidarity across lines of difference in order to protect each other. Each of us is dealing with the challenges this moment presents, and we are also finding ways to contribute to maintaining the fabric of Israeli society.   With our colleagues’ permission, we are writing to share their experiences from the ground with you, both personal and professional.

You can read their full accounts here. Across borders and lines of difference, we are so grateful that you are part of this work.

Fayrouz Alatayka

Safe Communities Coordinator in the Negev  As Fayrouz and her loved ones scramble to find makeshift shelter from the rockets, she is working to build a cadre of volunteers who will work with the IDF Home Front Command to address the needs of the Bedouin community.

Shany Payes

Director of Research and Evaluation  Shany has experienced wartime before, but never to this calibre. As she considers the inequities laid bare by active conflict, she is working to make relevant research from The Abraham Initiatives available to those promoting de-escalation and strong Jewish-Arab partnership in the shadow of war.

Yanal Jabarin

Director of Public Affairs  In the face of deep uncertainty, Yanal is pushing Israeli political leaders from both the coalition and the opposition to meet the moment and respond effectively to the needs of all citizens.

Yana Neuman

Director of Shared Workplaces Initiative  Yana is navigating the conflict with her children and husband, coping with humour and thinking of those who lack the resources she has. She’s also providing guidance to Israeli healthcare institutions as they respond to the emergency and work to maintain functioning workplaces.
